The Milwaukee Bucks part ways with Sandro Mamukelashvili
USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Bucks are waiving two-way forward Sandro Mamukelashvili.

Per a report by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Milwaukee has coordinated with Mamukelashvili’s agents to assist him with his options in the future.

No place in the rotation

While on a two-way contract, Mamukelashvili appeared in 65 games with the Bucks over the last two seasons, averaging 3.2 points and 2.1 rebounds in 9.6 minutes per game.

A two-way contract means a player is allowed to sign a guaranteed deal with an NBA franchise and play for both its NBA professional team and its G-League affiliate.

It was understandable that Mamukelashvili had limited minutes with the Bucks as he was competing with big men Brook Lopez, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Bobby Portis Jr.

The Bucks originally selected the 6-foot-10 Georgian big man as the 54th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Sandro can still make it

Mamukelashvili showed flashes of brilliance while with the Bucks. His best game with Milwaukee came during the 2021-22 season when the Bucks lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers, 115-133, on April 10, 2022. In that game, Mamukelashvili exploded with 28 points on top of a game-high 13 rebounds, four assists, and a steal.

The 23-year-old Mamukelashvili also played in 30 games, including 23 starts, with the Wisconsin Herd over the past two seasons, where he was good for 20.5 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.

With Mamukelashvili’s departure, Milwaukee’s roster is now at 15 players. Once Mamukelashvili is officially waived, Milwaukee will have one available two-way slot.

The Bucks also have two standard roster spots. One of the spots was temporarily given to Meyers Leonard, who was signed to a 10-day contract.
